Steering the Rails: Anglos of Perambur
Walk Description
Join us for a walk along the streets of Perambur, unearthing the stories of a community that claimed the areas as theirs. Dedicated to the smooth functioning of the Indian Railways, the Anglo-Indian men and women were integral to steering the rails of the company and partaking in its extraordinary growth. To them, the Railways were more than simple trains on the tracks. Now, much has changed, with the Anglo diaspora dispersed across the world. The Anglo-Indian culture, one being Indian with a distinctive Western flair, can still be found hidden within the structures that exist along the area. This heritage walk will focus on the stories and lives of the Anglo-Indians that resided in the locality, by tracing their institutions of work, worship and recreation.
