Various empires, conquerors, merchants, traders, and diverse communities found the town of Mylapore a vibrant and opportunistic place. The ancient town is mentioned in various travellers’ accounts and literary works. Mylapore is rich in stories, legends, local culture, and architecture. 

 

Over the decades, the area has undergone drastic changes, which have impacted its planning and architectural language. But, the old town still peeks out here and there, offering us splendid insights into the influences and impacts that the influx of people and culture has had on the town.

 

We journey from the temple to the shore in this walk and uncover the layers of history that the old and new town of Mylapore contains. Join us on this exploration and regale in the stories that Mylapore has to offer.
