Chronicles of Choolai
Developed as part of the Heritage Walk Leader Programme

“Search for a period costume rental for an Oscar Wilde play in school first brought me to this neighbourhood”, says our walk leader, Latha Nathan.

Now, when we revisit the streets….what has changed, what remains the same, what are the stories waiting to be shared? Is the resident going about her daily duties aware of the intrigue, mystery and drama that played out on her streets?

Does he pause to think that maybe his grandfather had his sweet cravings satiated by the very same establishment that brightens up his child’s face? What are the stories behind the park in which they walk every morning, and the small temples that they pray in?

And the family from Mangalore that has been keeping their smiles intact?

Come join us as we walk through Choolai and relive its colourful history.

The walk was developed under the Heritage Walk Leader Programme.

The walk will be led by Ms Latha Nathan. She tells the story of the neighbourhood that has been her home for the past two decades. She is a kolam artist, a saree lover, a storyteller and a heritage enthusiast. As a volunteer with an urban greening NGO, she has done many tree walks across the city.
